It is late, and you are awake again.
Not because you are dramatic. Not because you are weak. But because something quiet has been following you around, and tonight it finally found you alone.
The thought goes something like this: What if it just never happens for me?
What if you do everything right, and it still does not come? What if you are somehow already too late, and no one is going to tell you?
I know this thought. I have lived it.
I am Shaena, founder of MeanTo™. I am 36, single again, and starting over with love in my 30s. I have been a coach for over 10 years. And here is the part I could easily leave out:
I am divorced. Single again. No kids yet.
I have loved deeply. I have lost deeply. I have had relationships I hoped would finally become home, and they did not.
So when I tell you I understand the fear that love may not happen, I am not speaking from a place of having arrived. I am speaking from inside the walk. The same one you are on right now.
What Starting Over With Love in Your 30s Actually Feels Like
The part that is hard is this:
Everyone around you is building the life you thought you would have by now. Weddings. Babies. Announcements in your feed, one after another, from people you went to school with, people you used to date, people younger than you who somehow figured it out before you did.
And you show up to those celebrations. You smile. You hold someone else’s baby. You drive home alone and think: When is it my turn?
That is not a dramatic question. That is an honest one. And it deserves an honest answer, not a linen-print platitude.
For years, I chased love like I was running out of time. Not because I was desperate, but because the world kept handing me evidence that I should be. The clock gets louder every year. And somewhere along the way, I started believing that if I worked hard enough, tried harder, became a better version of myself fast enough, I could outrun the fear.
I could not.
And I want to say something about the advice you have probably been given. Stop looking and it will happen. Focus on yourself and he will appear. You are too in your head about it. Sure. Lovely. That is the kind of thing that looks good on a coffee mug and means nothing at 2am when the bed is empty and the apps are making you feel worse about yourself every time you open them.
So let me tell you what I actually mean when I say something different.
The Questions That Changed Starting Over With Love
I did not stop wanting love. I did not detach. I did not decide to be fine with being alone. Those are not the answers, and I will never teach them to you.
What I did was change the questions I was asking.
I stopped asking: What are the best tactics to make a man choose me?
And I started asking: Who is the man I would be excited to see reflected in my children?
I stopped asking: Where do I find him?
And I started asking: How do I let the Universe bring him right to me?
I stopped asking: What is wrong with me that this has not happened yet?
And I started asking: Who is the woman I am becoming, and is she someone who can hold the love she is asking for?
That last question is the one that changed everything. Not because it is comfortable, but because it is honest. Because it places the work where the work actually lives: inside you. Not out there, in the world of tactics and timelines and trying to become someone more palatable so you can finally be chosen.
What I Believe About Love and Timing
Here is something it took me years of coaching, and years of living, to stop flinching when I say:
What is meant for you cannot be missed.
Not because love is easy, or guaranteed without effort. But because God does not work on a human schedule. And the love that is waiting for you, the real kind, is being held. Not lost. Not given to someone else. Held, until you are the woman who can hold it back.
Think of it this way. You cannot carry something precious in broken hands. You cannot receive something large in a vessel that is cracked from the inside. What is meant for you is not being withheld as punishment. It is being protected, until you are ready to receive it without dropping it.
That is what the wait is. Not a verdict on your worth. A preparation. A widening. The becoming of the woman who will know exactly what she has when it finally arrives.
The Creator reorders life around who you become, not around what you chase. Energy poured outward, toward tactics and apps and waiting for a message that proves you are wanted, is wasted. Energy poured inward asks a different question altogether: Who is the woman who already has this?
Become her. The rest follows.
Building Yourself First Is Not a Consolation Prize
In this season of my life, I sat down and wrote what I actually want my life to feel like. Not what I want him to look like, or when I want it to happen. What I want my life to feel like, with or without him in the picture yet.
Joy that does not wait for me to meet him.
A body I love living in. A faith that holds me when I do not have all the answers. A sense of self so full that when he arrives, I am not empty and hoping he will fill me. I am whole, and I am choosing him from that wholeness.
This is what building yourself first actually looks like. Not a checklist to complete before you deserve love. Not a strategy to become more attractive. A decision to become the woman you were always MeanTo be, regardless of who is watching.
Because the love that changes your life will ask you to change first. Not by learning how many hours to wait before responding to his message. Not by becoming more easygoing, more careful about how much of yourself you show. But by becoming more fully, more deeply, more unapologetically yourself. The woman who wants love deeply, and is done walking toward it from fear, lack, or the need to be chosen.
That shift is not something you perform. It is something you live.
The Honest, Raw Version of the Journey
I am documenting all of it here. Not the polished version. Not the highlight reel of a woman who has it figured out and is handing wisdom down from above.
The real version. The honest, unfiltered walk toward the love of my life.
I am 36. I am single. I am doing the work I teach.
I am learning, in real time, what it means to want love without chasing it. To be single again without turning it into proof that something is wrong with me. To trust the Creator’s timing and letting faith do what it does.
Because here is what I have found: faith does not teach you to live alongside the fear. It dissolves it completely.
And that is where everything begins to shift.
You are not running out of time.
You are not behind. You are not too much.
You are the woman being called back to herself.
And the love you were MeanTo have is already looking for you.
love,
Shaena.
A few things you might be wondering
Is it too late for me to find love in my 30s?
No. I know how late it can feel, when every wedding and every birthday lands like a quiet warning. But what is meant for you cannot be missed, and it cannot be handed to another woman while you are not looking. Your timeline was never hers, and it is not late.
How do I stop feeling like I am running out of time?
That fear gets loudest at night, and the night is never where you decide the truth about your life. The clock is the voice of lack, not the voice of the Creator. The season you keep calling wasted is the vessel being widened, so that when love arrives you can hold it with both full hands.
Should I stop looking and just focus on myself?
Not the way that advice usually means it, as one more way to make love appear. I did not stop wanting a partner, and I will never teach you to detach or pretend you are fine alone. What changed everything for me was not looking less, it was changing the question, from where do I find him to who is the woman I am becoming.
What if it just never happens for me?
I know this fear from the inside, not from a book. But what is meant for you was created before you ever longed for it, and the longing itself is proof it already exists with your name on it. It is not a question of whether love comes. It is the slow becoming of the woman who is ready to receive it.
